Beat Garden

Plant flowers. When the light passes, they sing.

What your kid practises: Rhythm, and waiting for something you know is coming

Opens in a new tab. Nothing is sent anywhere while you play.

Why we made it

A little garden of sprouts. A soft light sweeps across it, left to right, about every four seconds.

Press a key and a sprout grows into a flower. It stays quiet — until the light reaches it. Then it blooms and sings. Your kid isn’t writing a song. They’re planting a garden that turns out to be one.

Left plants early, right plants late. Every flower sounds good with every other flower, so there is no way to make a bad garden — empty, full, or anything in between.

How to play together

  1. 1Watch the light go across once, together.
  2. 2Press any key to plant a flower. Wait for the light!
  3. 3Space makes everything bloom at once. ↑ ↓ change the speed.

Good to know

The toy runs in a browser tab, so a curious kid can still find these:

  • Ctrl+Alt+Del — Windows always lets that through.
  • The browser’s tabs and address bar (unless you use the kiosk launcher from GitHub).
  • Swiping in from the screen edge on touchscreens.
